Remedial Massage (book as Sports Massage)
Remedial Massage is a Therapeutic or Clinical massage that aims to resolve a particular issue, usually muscular pain though the outcome could relate to poor posture, reduced mobility or sports performance.
It is sometimes called Medical Massage though this term implies the therapist has a medical qualification so is NOT generally used in the UK.
More commonly in the UK it is called a Sports Massage though this term is also unhelpful as it suggests the treatment is only for sports injuries or sports people… which it isn’t.
At Natural Balance we use the term Sports massage to cover Remedial, Clinical or Therapeutic Massage – all of which are targeted and outcome based treatments that aim to resolve a specific muscular based issue. As mentioned already that issue could be aches and pains, limited mobility, poor posture or preparing for/recovering from an endurance event.
It is suitable for everyone from highly active athletes to people who do no exercise at all and lead very sedentary lives.
It is important to note that in the UK only a doctor can diagnose a medical issue so if unsure about the cause of pain it’s worth checking the NHS check list below before booking a massage.
That said if you’re in discomfort and you know that it’s muscular in origin and has been caused by hours at the computer or gardening or over doing it at the gym then a Sports Massage is usually a good intervention once the pain is less acute and any swelling has gone down.
